i watched the arena yesterday, it was a really exciting and engagin debate between loyang sec n hwa chong. cool!! i thot the girls from loyang sec were pretty aggressive and innovative. but luckily the boys from hci remained cool and stood their ground. haha debate is really fun! and the topic was "are bloggers more influential than journalists?" loyang sec was the proposition while hci was the opposition. one point that i rmb clearly from loyang sec was that with the increasing access to internet these days, bloggers are becoming more influential. of cuz not to forget to define influence, which refers to the
magnitude and
effect (impact?) of the influence. because people are able to react and respond faster thru internet n blogs, they can publish their entries easily then let their readers edit and filter them. but for journalists, they have to edit their entries first before they can publish those articles.so because of the difference in the way n process of doing things, blogs nowadays are able to reach out to the majority at a faster rate. of course, the issue of credibility comes into the picture as well. and ya, loyang sec keeps citing examples of Singaporeans reading the blogs of ministers BG yeo and vivian balakhrisnan, to show the extent of influence of blogs. but hci did a good job in defending their stand by questioning if pple read their blogs because they r alr influential politicians, and not because they as bloggers r influential. in the end, hci won! and i tink those judges are pretty cool and had a pretty hard time?
