finally, finally i have got the time to sit down and faithfully type out wat happened at thailand!! yeaa enjoyed myself thoroughly :) experienced things i wouldn't have in singapore, made new friends, both thai and singaporean. ok day of departure: my nice daddy volunteered to fetch me n nor to school to meet the logistics group first, then transport those donation items to the airport. at the airport, everything was pretty much in a mess, i guess cuz everyone was pretty excited about the trip :) and yeah, dear phoebe came down to send me off, and she baked me a super nice apple pie! yummy!! dear shihong and his friend came to send eugene n me off too!! tt's nice of them. and we were almost late for checking in :X
when we arrived in bangkok, we checked into this student christian center which is pretty near to the shopping district (hooray!), and that place was pretty comfy!there was tennis courts and basketball courts too! at night, we decided to go Suan Lum Night market to shop and eat dinner! that place is really worth going i must say! shopping and food were good, prices are reasonable too! bought quite a number of things on my first night there. when we wanted to return to our hostel, we decided to be adventurous and try the tuk-tuk there! oh my, its really quite an experience! the driver really provided us with much fun n excitement with his reckless driving, and he tried to ask for a higher price than wat we had settled for. also, he tried to drive us to those pubs and discos. luckily, zihan was in the same tuk-tuk as us, and he threatened to call the police if the driver din send us back to our destination.
2nd day: we looked for our own breakfast nearby, and visited the 7-eleven! haha, 7-11 there is quite a nice place for us to settle our sudden hunger pangs and cravings for snacks, because its really quite cheap. in the noon, the guys plus me n nor nor visited chinatown with one of the thai youth participant Dao, while the rest of the girls went MBK. we took bus there, and that place was really quite congested with hawkers selling their fare. things are really much much cheaper there, because its supposed to be like a wholesale thing. after shopping for our logistics stuff, we proceeded on to MBK, where the real shopping began! haha. i love that place, because its where the trendy and afforable stuff are! and those sellers wont purposely set their prices too high to cheat us. at night, we even went for thai massage. the girls tried foot massage, while the guys tried body massage. its so comforting that i really almost fell asleep zzz....
3rd day:set off to Moo Baan Dek, the children's village.along the way, there was this cute little girl tom pai! and she's so cute and playful, but the pity is she only plays with weijin and chaorong, and totally ignore the rest. anw, we visited the temple and had some sight-seeing. its a good break from the rather long and tiring journey. when we finally reached the children's village, we were given a rousing and warm welcome from the children there, where a ceremony was held ( the people there will give their blessings by tying white threads around our wrists). and i saw my cute little girl!!! love her totally, because she's really pretty n adorable. and she will only cling onto me. initially i din noe if she was a girl or guy, and cheeky Dao suggested pulling down her pants to check. ahha. but my instincts told me she's a girl, and i m right! because a few days later when i saw her again, she was in a dress! by the way, at night, we had a time of our life, when we saw meteor shower and shooting stars! a good 20 plus of them!! but weather there at night is freezing cold!!
4th to 8th day: we carried out the english lessons we had planned for the kids. the first day of teaching was quite horrible, because we were quite unprepared and the kids were really quite rowdy at times. but after reflection with yanling's father that night, i m surprised and glad that everything became better and went on more smoothly. some of the kids are really quite smart, they learnt really fast! they can rmb well, and their articulation is great! i m happy that they enjoy our lessons! and i tink they love our mass dances too! i must say i know three dances pretty well now! quite pro alr! ahhaa. and i realise, some kids there are really sensible and keen on learning English. for example there is this guy called Dow, whose proficiency in English is quite high. he even had a English-thai book with him. both him and Ap are very helpful too, i guess being one of the few older ones there, they knew they had the responsibility to do those manual work and help out. and i really respect them for that. and there's this guy called Toto in my group, he's one of the few gentlemanly guy i have ever come across. on the day we trekked up to waterfall, he really helped us alot, esp the girls, by helping us cross certain slippery areas and stuff. hahaa and i rmb someone from the trip say, if he's about our age, she doesn't mind considering him! oh yeah, and waterfall is great!! the sense of achievement when u finally reach the waterfall is overwhelming!! haha. but its so cold! had fun playing there!!
after we left the nature reserve, and went back to Moo Baan Dek, we went on to farming and playground repair. really sweated it out like a farmer to toil the land, plant the seedlings etc. now i really appreciate wat the farmer does. its real hard work. then we painted the playground and fastened the swings. we also repaired the table tennis tables for the kids. hope that all will be of good use to them in the future.
on the last two days at bangkok, everything was really relaxing. finally had a clean shower at the travllers' hotel. as well as a good night rest. went around together on our own, and i must say i feel quite comfortable travelling about in bangkok without any adult's supervision. at least the MRT is safe. but then, prob i feel safe and secure because Dao was there, at least knowing someone who is familiar with the area is quite heart-warming. Dao has been really of great help! and ahha, he's such a Ji-hong king!
aaahhh..i miss thailand :( but i m glad we are still keeping in contact with each other, and organising frequent outings to meet up! like the tennis-ing session, boxing day gathering and sentosa outing yest! and i just got burnt :X
