woohoo. back from thailand, nongkhai!
its fun. i totally miss the people there, and the friends i have made, like my group mates, chunli, grace and pamela etc.
went to Ban Prao Primary school to teach english for three days. taught them months, songs (like london bridge etc.) and mass dance (set on u). they are really smart! learn everything quite fast. then on friday we had sports day. those kids were really zai in soccer, volleyball and sepak takraw. and i got to play all three sports with them! they are veh nice, cuz they are very willing to welcome u to play with them and immerse in their culture. even the girls were good at soccer, prob cuz their country's national sports are soccer, volleyball and sepak takraw. my first time playing takraw! the teachers and principal there are friendly and approachable. even though their school is not very well-off, but they always serve the best to us, in terms of food, which makes us feel really bad abt it.
on weekends, we went to orphanage and rehab centre for handicapped people. as usual, we played soccer with the people on both days. and they won on both occassions. so zai. :) we gave out sweets and clothes we have collected to them, and they were appreciative of it. some of the boys immediately put on those shirts we gave them. and when we invited them to join us in our performance, they gladly do so with enthusiasm, so unlike singapore, where people will hesitate before agreeing to do so. they are spontaneous and very optimistic, so contented with whatever they had. even though their living conditions are not as good as ours, and some may be physically handicapped, but they do not despair and give up on themselves. maybe because they are ignorant, as quoted from xuehui that ignorance may be a blessing in disguise. this is something i have learnt from them, to be happy with your own life and live your life to the fullest.
nongkhai is a relatively run-down part of thailand. they do not have hot water or even clean water that u can drink from the tap. and the toilets are rather....ahem..yar. it doesnt have such a sophisticated drainage system and flushing system as singapore. but the people are rather united there. for example, in the primary school where i taught, the seniors really took care of the younger children and showed them care and concern. probably the school is quite small, and there is only one class per level. the scenery in nongkhai is not bad, and things are sold at relatively low prices. bought many chocolates there, cuz one herseys bar costs less than a dollar there. 20 baht!
bangkok, as compared to nongkhai, is a more developed town. bad traffic conditions, smoke (pollution!) and always having traffic jams! better to take public transport than private ones. the ticketing system for public bus is quite interesting! got only 2 hours of shopping at night bazaar market on the last second day. but that place was quite good. for the last day, we went to some leather shop (which the tour guide insisted) and adidas factory outlet. and we only got 2 hours to shop too. sad -_- food in thailand was quite good, got the green curry, phad thai etc, dessert (banana in coconut). and we tried vietnamese food there too! yummy!! on the last day at the airport we ate at black cannon cafe!
for the past week or so, really had a memorable time. played angel-and-mortal game within ourselves. my angel was qibo and mortal was junwei (he din manage to guess me correctly! haha. i m so zai!~) and there's the A9 cafe set up by qibo, royston and bernard. they are really sweet, will make milo, liangteh, cup noodles etc. for whoever wants it and deliver for them. cuz they brought a kettle from singapore. ahha. so smart. cuz our guesthouse doesn't have hot water. except for the toilrt one. boo. people from the ocip trip were really fun and nice. got to know some of them better. yar, and group 2 rawks too! except perhaps for ....ahem..hahaha. i shan't mention it here. ;) and mr alex tan, miss lum and mr ngoi are really interesting! esp mr ngoi. dun be deceived by his serious looks k! he's always laming around and crapping. likes to gay around with qibo!!! though he already has a gf called jane, cuz he claims he is tarzan. (lame) hahhahaa. poor qibo for being his sole target! and miss lum likes to give us a treat!!! and mr tan and his gf, called buffy. interesting!
yeah, join thai experience!
